Posted in Uncategorized at 7:57 pm by coldclimate

Friday night i was working the bar, and it was 5 deep all night. busy busy sbusy, but with a very high totty rating (yes boys - there are actually GIRLS at Cuths - even if they are just visiting), and on the way home I got to play Hero Of The Week - there wasd a girl face down on the pavement and out cold. Eventually I got her to tlak and got her home (? she was wittering about being dumped and gave me directions to her boyfriends house and so I took her there). There - I must deserve a free drink for that one.
Anyway i got up @ X an (X = unknown but unlikable quantity) and went ot work the market. I sold 210 of french bread, and left intime for a late lunch and a bought a couple of Chaineese Pears for good measure on the way home.

Right - its 9pm, Ive just turned down oging out for the night witha tri of lovely ladies (and a few housemates) so i really should get some work done and stop typing to the rest of the world. Ill find some comedy webshites to link to later in the week - and if I cant find any Ill post the filth that Nickie D emailed me this morning (anybody fancy an apple ? [cheeky grin])

Right its whinge

Posted in Uncategorized at 6:00 pm by coldclimate

Right its whinge and moan time. I think of this as a form of therapy for dealing with the stress that is computers. Not just working with them, but learning about them and generally beginning to loath them (subnote:winamp has just flicked to - The Lemon Jelly Remix of badly drawn boys Pissing In The Wind which I have decided is one of the most uplifting startings to a song Ive ever heard.)
Ive been stressing about work since Christmas. There just was heaps of it being piled on at Uni and the next person who says bloody students never doin nout and drinking 3 years away Im going to resist hitting and force them to come to all of my lectures and watch over me as I type away until X am to get things finished. Anyway the wqork was really piling up, my social life was up the spout and so I decided that a break was needed. I held out until out holidays only to find out that because Id been working so much Id neglected to actually learn the material. Hence the need to come back to Durham to lock myself in a room for 3 weeks and learn the damned lot. Only theyve decided we have work to do in this period too.

Ive spend all day trying to get a c++ compiler to work on my machine. Ive been back and forth to the uni library to use the high speed net connection to download one thing after another, and to have all of the things Ive tried (djgpp, lccwin and cygwin) all fail to compile the simple hello world program we started our lectures with. I was on the verge of giving up and re-installing Mandrake Linux on my other drive when I realised that Id been typing gcc to compile programs which IS THE WRONG DAMN COMMAND ! I should have been typing gpp! Im going to kill something(or body - watch out untrained ninja on the loose here).

Ive going to chill out tomorrow. I have no real work to-do, but I do start my new job working on the market selling olives and French bread two things close to my heart. Maybe I should just give it all up and being a free trader? Try and make my million by working for it not thinking for it.

Oh congrats go to Dan my old flatmate who has just won the National Young Engineer of the Year Award. He confessed to wanting to be a millionaire in his interview and that seemed to win them over.

I heard a whole section on blogging on radio 4 yesterday while I was (attemping to) werk. Sadly it was form the “god damn eejits with nothing to say” point of view, which was a shame. I half heartedly was hoping for a link when they mentioned the number of students who were blogging - but alase no.

Well - another day - ant

Posted in Uncategorized at 9:21 am by coldclimate

Well - another day - antoher benchtest. This time its c++ , a language weve been exected to learn in 7 weeks. We get given a shitty piece of script, in some dubious form of c++ (it is no way standard !) and we are expected to make it work. So i did, and it does work, but then I noticed he had babbled on about some function at the top and I had not used it in my fix. But where was I to use it ? The program worked fine ! So Im now battering this script to try and knock off a NULL from the end of string, which is doing no harm there really, and could easily be caught somewhre else if we needed to.

And my arms ache form giving blood. And its raining. And the last piece of work I handed is going to get less marks because it was late, caused by the University servers being down. bastards.
