Updates continue to be sporadic, because unfiltered interweb is scarce. Sorry kids, stay tuned though.

Language of bull shit

Posted in Imported at 2:19 pm by coldclimate

Whenever you hear a consultant, or anybody for that matter, say “basically”, “essecially”,  “what you have to understand is” or “what I’ll say to you is”, they are speaking Cuntish, a language of cover-your-own-arse management bullshit.

Food from the wild

Posted in Imported at 9:46 am by coldclimate

Something very close to my heart (and stomach) the BBC has an online video about Food from the wild. Go dig in the hedgerows and be happy. There is nothing more tasty that something fresh from the bush.

Online comics

The Perry Bible Fellowship has been making me snigger for an hour. Snigger in a sick and dirty way, but still a good fun way too.

Driving fun

Posted in Imported at 8:30 pm by coldclimate

Normally, I’m not the biggest fan of driving, it’s just a functional thing to get me from where I am, to where I need to be, but today, was a different matter all together. I left my lasses mothers house, driving up to Cumbria, and it all changed.

I was sitting in the middle lane, in my little 1.2 Corsa, and I lost Radio4 reception, so I hit play on the mini-disc, and Furious Angels was in. The danger of the first track is it is a motherfucker of a driving song. I found myself with my foot to the floor, passing things at silly speeds, and then criss-crossing lanes to straighten the corners of the motorway (when it was clear), double clutching to smooth 5th to 4th shifts and downshifting drive the corners activly. Stupid, dnagerous, and so ridiculously fun, than given the current state of Top Gear, I should have known better.

I did find my heart racing and a smiling so much that hurt, for the first time in ages and ages. My icon might actually be appropriate today. Watch him go!

Now, back to the trains, which, though technically go faster, aren’t half as much fun.

Need to sort out internet on the move

Posted in Imported at 8:45 am by coldclimate

Only having non-corporate internet through the week is killing me. I can’t read half my rss feeds (just in case), I can’t check my email and I can’t update my private blog. Damn it!

I wonder how expencive these mobile cards are?

Want to know all about statspack and other Oracle features? Then Using STATSPACK to monitor Oracle performance is an ok little page.

However, check out the photo! Scary.

More graphic geeking

Posted in Imported at 7:07 pm by coldclimate

I’m loving some of the links on Dagoneye’s del.icio.us pages tagged with “graph” . I’ve still not found anything useful for New Project(tm) though.

Getting lost in the outback and having to be rescued. Tragic. Getting lost in the outback again that same week and having to be rescued, again. Idiot.

news from the front

Posted in Imported at 5:02 pm by coldclimate

updates and slow and rubbish at the moment kids, sorry. I’ve no internet connection monday > friday other than the corporate one, which I’m trying not to abuse too much. Nothings amazingly new. I’m travelling lots, and as a result having more “social beers” especially Monday and Wednesday, if any of you happen to to in London (monday) or Reading (friday).

The globe keeps on spinning :)

Tube maps google maps mashup

Posted in Imported at 8:01 am by coldclimate

This is what happens when two things you love collide. i love (love love love) the tube map and I love (really quite like) Google maps. Combine the two, bake at 180o for 5 minutes and you get…jstott.me.uk: Google Maps - London Underground Map. So so handy for removing unneeded tube journies, of which I suspect I make quite a few, not being a cockney with The Knowledge.

Friday afternoon read

Posted in Imported at 12:51 pm by coldclimate

yes it’s the talented digital monkeys inverviewing a much love old man on kids tv about stuff. Also known as B3TA : interviews: Tony Hart. My favorite question has to be “What is the biggest thing you have ever lost and where did it go?” to which I would be very stuck for an answer as the only thing I remember loosing is a camera, which by it’s very nature, was quite small.

5 Great Technologies

Posted in Imported at 12:29 pm by coldclimate

In no real order…

TCP/IP:It runs all of the networking stuff we now take for granted, and it doesn’t really go wrong.

DVD: VHS was rubbish.  DVD is cleaner, neater, more robust, and faster (remember rewinding VHS).  CHS was more “pausable” though.

USB: Non faf, no hassle, and coupled with USB Mass Storage Driver, it’s a winner.  IMagine having to have a different driver for every USB key/digital camera etc etc.

ATAPI Drives:  cdroms are now old hat, but back in the early days you have to hijak the cdrom onto the back of a soundcard etc. It was a total hassle.  ATAPI changed all that.

RSS: Should be really handy, but it’s not being used for anything really useful yet.  I think it has great potencial.

Windows is a bag of shit

Posted in Imported at 8:52 am by coldclimate

I’ve done nothing out of the ordinary, and this moring, when I double clicked an xls file and Windows is REINSTALLING OFFICE! I don’t have the cd. I never have. I can pre-installed on my corporate laptop. So how the fuck is it going to try and install!

Wretched mother fucking OS.
