I love the idea of  Bathroom Bookshelf partyly because it introduced me to this.  Animated folk-poptasticness.

Yes, and it’s the Inspector Gadget theme tune too, with a bit of Bevely Hills Cop about it.  Oh yes.

Firefly and Serenity

Posted in shiny at 8:00 pm by coldclimate

When Firefly was dropped form TV, it was an odd time in TV history.  If it has stayed on TV, it would have been another OK tv series.  By cancelling it, it was catapulted it into history as a great TV series.  Couple it with Serenity film, and you have a total winning package.

It’s got everything you might need, for geeks and more.  The story line is a perfect mix of old style cowboys drama, set in space, perfect!  It’s got an amzing case of character from the perfectly drool Wash, and the slightly irritating doctor, the fragile River, the homely rough diamond of Book and the man’s man Mal.

It is also awash with eyecandy.  From the swooping vista of space, and the pixel perfect flight scenes, to the joys of the female cast.  There’s the warrior queen herself Zoë, through the truely stunning Inara landing with the jewel in the of cutie geeky wonderfulness Kaylee.

Personally, when I grow up, I want to be Mal.  Or possibly Jayne, and when I’m older, I want to be Shepherd Book.

So, go buy the Firefly boxset for 17 quid, and Serenity to back it up, and make a weekend of it.  Shiny!

Who feeds me? RSS isn’t friendly!

I’ve seen a huge increase in the amount of traffic which gets identified as “rss feeder” rather than Ie, firefox etc.  Lovely as it is to be read, I wonder, who are you?  Why not leave me a comment and say hi?

Kill it, cook it, eat it II

Posted in food at 8:48 pm by coldclimate

This is truely one of the most amazing pieces of TV I have watched in years. It’s very carefully not been done to be dramatic, because it could have so easily been meaty big brother, and all along the way they have tried to explain what people are seeing. For example, when the animal is knocked and and bled to death, it kicks out even after the head has been remoed and the animal is and the poor bastard was definatly dead, many would think that the animal was still alive, but they went through the trouble of explaining why it happens (nerve impuses, lack of oxygen, etc).

The skill and dexterity of the guys working there is truely amazing too. I’ve kill and gutted several animals, and it is not an easy task. To skin, gut and joint even a small animal takes me time and is hard work. These guys were so neat and tidy, with every nick and slice being made so that the weight of the animal takes the “risk” away (eg. the outer skin is cut away so that the outside never touches the inside).

The other thing worth noting was not only the total professionalism of the slaughters, but the respect they had for the animal. This is an easy thing to say, but I honestly believe it. I really don’t beleive that that the beast was traumatised.

Just amaizng stuff. I’ve watched the beef and the lamb epesodes tonight, and I’m blown away. Watch it, be you vegan, vegitarian or meat lover.

Kill it, cook it, eat it

Posted in food at 8:39 pm by coldclimate

Finally somebody has made a fabulous piece of TV.  Long have I ranted on about people being ignorent and proud of it.  BBC has a programme on at the moment called Kill It, Cook It, Eat It which follows beast from field to plate.  The public are invited to watch the whole process, and to eat at the end (if they wish).

I’m only five minutes in, but already they’ve visited a very normal farmer who has just said “I get used to having them being around, but I’m not attached to them, I know what the end destination is”

I wonder what people will make of a lot of the noises farmers make?  Sometimes it sounds harsh, but it’s just getting cattle to move on.

More later after I’ve watched.
