A lexicon for the uninitiated
Most of my readers can ignore this, or just roll their eyes.
I’ve just seen a tweet by Suw that made me thing of a post I half wrote about a year ago and never got round to publishing. I keep hearing people mixing up their nouns for “nu-media”, so here’s a handy guide for all you radio/tv/people.
- Blog
- A sequential listing of blog posts, written by a defined person or group of people. You can’t post to my blog unless I invite you. You can comment however comment on one of my blog posts however I I provide that facility. Example: www.coldclimate.co.uk is my blog.
- Post (or blog post)
- An individual article on a blog. Often associated with a category or set of tags (to allow readers to find other posts on a related subject). Blogs often organise their posts into reverse chronological order, making the newest posts available first.
- A service which allows users to post tweets and follower other Twitterers.
- Twitter feed
- A list if tweet by a single user. Only I can post to my twitter feed (http://www.twitter.com/coldclimate/) Often identified by the @ symbol eg. @coldcliate
- Tweet
- An individual post to Twitter
